Gait Analysis

Gait analysis, also called motion analysis, is a comprehensive assessment that analyzes how a patient’s body moves and provides an excellent reference for detecting abnormalities in the complex functions that allow someone to walk and run. Many patients who have experienced disease or injuries can develop irregularities in walking, which may result in pain when moving in the feet, knees, ankles, hips, back, and neck. Dr. Irene Londer has been practicing since 1996 and has been serving the King of Prussia community since 2010. Dr. Londer utilizes specialty techniques such as gait analysis to help her patients restore health and function to the body so they can lead an optimal lifestyle. If you would like a qualified, expert gait analysis assessment, contact Londer Family Chiropractic Center in King of Prussia, PA.

Why is Gait Analysis Effective?

Gait analysis can identify numerous areas of the body which may lead to a patient having trouble walking. Gait analysis evaluates muscular, skeletal, and nerve problems, can diagnose skeletal misalignments and deformations of the bone, and helps evaluate the progression of certain diseases such as muscular dystrophy and arthritis.

While gait analysis can be conducted through visual observation, many doctors use state-of-the-art advanced technologies to generate a detailed analysis of the patient’s stride length, step length, cadence, joint angles, and cycle time. Dr. Londer may use computerized video cameras to observe movement in slow motion, sensors to evaluate footstep pressure and length of stride, electrodes to track muscular movement, and infrared markers to identify 3D joint movement.

Gait analysis is excellent for athletes and is frequently used in sports performance to identify any problematic or bad habits that can lead to extra strain when moving the body. Gait analysis can be a proactive diagnostic tool that can help prevent injuries down the road. Through this evaluation, athletes can have a better understanding of their stability, flexibility, mobility, and strength, which can lead to better training and performance techniques.

Following a gait analysis performed in King of Prussia, PA, Dr. Londer can prescribe customized orthotics that can positively affect pelvic stability and posture. Proper stabilization and balancing of the feet can help protect the bones, spine, and soft tissue from excess stress, and can contribute to improved mobility and quality of life.
